Styli
Straight Styli
Straight styli are the simplest and most commonly used type of stylus. They are suitable for inspecting simple features with which direct contact can be made. "Single-stepped" or multiple-stepped stems can be chosen depending on the task. All the probes in this category, except for pointed ones (type K), have a ball as a probing element. All standard materials for the components and their properties can be found in our material overview. The stylus pointer (type K) has a hardened stainless tip or a tip made of tungsten carbide with different conicity as probing geometry.
Straight StyliStar Styli
Star styli is one of the most versatile types of styli. They allow the measurement of large diameters without the risk of bending, even with very long gauging lengths. They are the perfect solution to measure undercuts or threads. The wide range of variations and the number of fixed probe arms allow the generation of task-specific measuring programs. For example, if there is no probe in the stem direction (type W), a measurement close to the bottom of the hole is realized.
Star StyliAdapters / Holders
The adapter plate is the central interface between a coordinate measuring machine, a probe, and the workpiece to be measured. In most cases, these have an integrated electronic identification chip, which enables precise probe identification. The adapter plates serve to accommodate different probe configurations. The main advantage is that the required styli can be changed quickly and precisely.
Adaptors / HoldersExtensions
Extensions allow the probe to reach into hard-to-reach areas of the workpiece or to keep multiple probes apart so that they do not interfere with each other. According to the metrology rules, extensions should be as short and rigid as possible, and the number of connection points should be reduced to the minimum.
ExtensionsCylinder Styli
The cylindrical probes come in use when the optimal measurement point cannot be reliably reached with the ball. For example, getting the endpoints of the punched holes in the metal sheets is essential during the scanning. This task can be accomplished by deliberately touching the stem of a cylindrical probe. Please note that the probe´s axis must be as possibly perpendicular to the element´s axis. For cylindrical probes with rounded ends, it is also possible to perform end-face probing or probing on the entire ball area.
Cylinder StyliDisc Styli
Spherical disc are sections of a precision balls, available in different thicknesses and diameters. Such probes come in use where it is necessary to realise the measurement of large inside diameters or the integrated undercuts. Important note: Normal disks are unsuitable for probing in the Z direction (except discs with radius end rollers).
Disc StyliHemispherical Styli
Hemispherical stylus are suitable for measuring elements requiring a large diameter of the probe ball with low weight or reduced overall height, as opposed to disc probes, which only allow radial probing. The hemispherical stylus probes can also be used to measure the stem direction. The advantage is that the entire surface of the hollow hemisphere can be used for probing.
Hemispherical StyliAdaptor Plates
The adapter plate is the central interface between a coordinate measuring machine, a probe, and the workpiece to be measured. In most cases, these have an integrated electronic identification chip, which enables precise probe identification. The adapter plates serve to accommodate different probe configurations. The main advantage is that the required styli can be changed quickly and precisely.
